Paper Or Plastic? Try Canvas!

When it comes to shopping at grocery stores, we’re almost always asked to pick between paper and plastic bags. People who choose to make the better choice of the two usually opt for paper bags, though in recent years, there’s become a third choice that’s growing in popularity. Reusable bags made from materials like canvas and recycled plastic are great to use for a variety of reasons. For starters, they’re reusable. Unlike plastic bags or paper bags, by investing in canvas or recycled bags, you’re investing in bags that can be used over and over again, which cuts down on waste. Secondly, reusable bags have a tendency to be stronger than both paper and plastic bags. More times than not, you’ve probably experienced a bag of groceries breaking while walking to your car or bringing them inside. Some grocery baggers attempt to remedy this involves using two or more bags at once for extra strength, but this is problematic as it creates even more waste than using plastic bags already does. Canvas and recycled plastic bags are considerably stronger, meaning that you don’t have to worry about them spilling your groceries everywhere. Reusable bags are durable, far more eco friendly, and in some cases, grocery stores may even offer you a slight discount for bringing your bags. Even the grocery stores themselves realize the benefits of reusable bags!

Start Composting

Just like how canvas and recyclable bags present a third option for carrying your groceries, composting your leftovers is another new option for green living in the kitchen. Whether if it’s just the scraps from your meal, skins from fruits and vegetables, coffee grounds and other types of waste, a lot of things that you would usually throw in the trash can easily be composted. Everything that you throw away gets thrown into a landfill, and the amount of things that you want to go there should be minimal. Recycling allows us to reduce this considerably, making it easy to recycle everything from aluminum cans, paper products and the like. Composting at home makes it possible for us to further reduce the amount of waste we create. Keep a container either by your garbage or elsewhere to collect all the items that you wish to compost, transferring them to your garden or another designated part of your yard. These materials will eventually decompose and find their way back into the soil. Not only will you be reducing the amount of waste you create, you’ll also be helping your garden grow!
